Details The purpose of this study was to examine what kind of English language skills are necessary for students to survive in an ever-advancing global society, and to consider how to teach English to foster these skills. In order to organize the qualities and abilities required of global human resources and the ones to be acquired in school education, as well as to identify the academic skills that should be acquired in English studies, we have taken a "vertical axis" and "horizontal axis" approach. In the reported case study, the vertical axis is the " contents of lessons according to the cognitive level," and the horizontal axis is the " logical and critical thinking ability" and the " problem finding and solving ability/creativity" as the thinking skills to be cultivated. In the practice, the English sentences expressed by the students in response to the task were analyzed from the perspectives of "cognitive level" and "thinking skills," and the changes in the students were reported.
