| 概要 | In Glarnertüütsch, a Swiss German dialect, words ending in plain consonants show an alternation in vowel length, that words with final geminates do not. This is explained as the interaction of a minimal word requirement with a constraint WEAKEDGE, that says the right edge of a prosodic constituent should be weak. The analysis predicts a typology of extrametricality, which is confirmed by variation seen in 4 Micronesian languages. |
