概要 This article will firstly examine some of the theories about teaching reading in a first language, then examine literature on the methods of teaching reading in a second language with empirical evidence on the success of these methods. Finally, it will analyze how reading is introduced in ten English textbooks approved by MEXT to interpret what this might tell us about the reading pedagogy behind the textbooks.
