| Details | 呼吸活動は大脳新皮質、小脳、橋、脊髄なども関与しているが、基本的には1つの部位、即ち延髄腹側に位置しているpre-Botzinger complex (preBotC)がそのリズム発現には重要な働きをしている考えられている。スライス標本において大きく2種類のペースメーカー細胞を同定できるが、これらのペースメーカーはまたシナプス活動によってもその活動が増強されている。この論文においては内在的なペースメーキングとシナプスによる増幅との間の相互作用について論じた。
