Details The purpose of this study was to clarify the present situation and to consider ethical issues for informed consent in the practice of occupational therapy. The subjects were 325 occupational therapists who belonged to an association of occupational therapists in one prefecture in Japan. The method was a mail - based survey consisting of a questionnaire about informed consent. The author considered three points in the survey results. 1. Occupational therapist and physician should make consideration concerning decision - making capacity. 2. Many occupational therapists answered that they could not explain functional prognosis to the clients even if they feel believed that disclosure was necessary. 3. The necessary and sufficient frequency and contents of disclosure to be obtained consent from clients are the problem which now confronts.
