概要 The early embryonic development of Sialis mitsuhashii (Megaloptera) was studied, because little is known about the embryology of Megaloptera. Egg period is about 11 days (18–21°C). The organization of freshly laid egg and the processes from fertilization to formation of the germ band are described. Except for the 2 types of yolk globules that are often distinguishable and their distribution in 2 areas in the egg, and the difference in thickness between the ventral and dorsal sides of the periplasm just before the syncytial blastoderm stage, no other characteristic features are present. A very broad ventral plate is formed, and this seems to be characteristic of this species and some other neuropteran species. Formation of the median plate begins in a narrow place as a spot, and it extends anterior-and posteriorwards, when the ventral plate scarcely differentiates into the protocephalon and protocorm. The inner layer is formed by invagination of the median plate.
